Equine Breeding Basics

Artificial insemination for all breeders can be affordable, safe, and effective. Equine A.I. does not have to be complicated if you use the right breeding system - the Equine Breeding Supply system.

One person can do it all. Expensive or elaborate equipment is not required to do it right when you use the EBS system. There are four things you need to be successful - a breeding mount, basic lab equipment, a few basic supplies, and the right advice.

1. Breeding Mount*

• Make sure your breeding mount is safe for the handler, the mare, and the stallion.

• Purchase a mount that eliminates the need for someone to hold the artificial vagina.

• Select a mount that eliminates the need to have an estrous mare in the breeding shed.

• Use the right breeding mount to save labor - one that requires only one person to operate.

2. Lab Equipment - Minimum Required

• Obtain a lab-type microscope with a minimum 40x objective and mechanical stage.

• Select an incubator large enough to hold the largest item that will come in contact with the semen.
